Does it matter what size you use? I want to make the 1 hour scarf pattern on the back. It says use 4 strands of yarn together as if they were one but it doesn't say what size. At first I started grabbing bulky yard in the store. But I started to think 4 stands of bulky would be too big so I put them back & got worsted weight. Now I'm worried worsted might not be big enough. I just don't want it to look too lacy.
I've gotten really good results with 4 strands of worsted-weight yarn and Speed Stix. I've also used them with a single strand of a super-bulky yarn and gotten good results.
Suggestion: Cast on for the scarf and knit about 6"--then decide whether or not you like the fabric you get. If you like it, keep going. Otherwise, unravel and start over with 5 strands of worsted-weight yarn. Five strands will be plenty heavy enough.
