Great Adirondack
Posted in Yarn | No Comments »Where should we camp in the Adirondacks Southwest?
We are WNY, so it's quite a drive there. Are there grounds camping well in the southwest corner of the Adirondacks? We really want some good things in the open air near boats, rivers and lakes swimming and rafting, hiking interesting (not just a walk in the woods, something with great views, challenging climbs, caves, etc..) somewhere with cliff jumping would be great! And I hate places with tons of tourists, or places where you must stay on the path of some (such as state park Letchworth, which is fine, but you can not even water!) Basically, we want a remote location (either tent camping or cabins), where there are lots of things to do outdoors. I see all these beautiful pictures of the Adirondacks Online. The area is southwest adirondack this beautiful? Or is highest to Lake Placid? Thank you You!
When I used to camp most often, I would stay in the Piseco / Region speculator. Speculator is just enough populated you can get gas, ice cream, groceries Charlie John's, or watch a movie if it rains. However it is close West Canada Creek Wilderness (WCCW) region. The area contains 168 lakes covering 2,400 acres 78 miles of hiking trails, and 11 lean-tos. No vehicles motorized are allowed and if you want to get away from everything is not difficult. There are many campgrounds and state also has many homes private options. When I was younger I went hiking at T-Lake Falls. It is about nine miles in WCCW. It was Labour Day 1995, which is usually the last weekend of the season crowded. We saw two other people at the weekend after the launch of the trailhead! As I am away from the tent camp, we started to enjoy staying at a Bed & Breakfast outside the park Barnevald called Sugarbush. We then use as our "base camp for our day trips in the Adirondacks.
