I know this question sounds pretty stupid, but if you think about it, the concept of a gunpowder explosion propelling a metallic projectile at high speeds (bullets) has been around since the late middle ages in Europe. We're talking a couple hundred years of gunpowder warfare. Obviously the guns we use today are efficient but in your opinion, do you think bullets will ever be replaced by something else?
Guns are visually intimidating, but their best weapons are biological warfare. Radiation, along with mustard gas, Co2 gas (in high amounts), and carbon monoxide are some of the worst but I believe there is much more. Their most powerful gun in my opinion is the The Barrett M107, which is a .50 Cal Rifle used for long-range targets. Its wicked... I'm not a big fan of the AK-47 but some people are. Personally, I tend favor silenced weapons 
Thats why Hitman is one of my favorite shooting games!! I love the silent attacks. I like "Death to Spies" too but I cant play the second one that was recently released this year I think, my computer can't hold it. 
At some point, they may use things that are not visible to the human eye... I wouldnt put it past me. Just look at some of these "futuristic" movies.. They don't make them for nothing.... Its all a big "what if?"
