Pompadour Yarn
Posted in Yarn | No Comments »Information on this type of yarn I have?
It say it is Tioga Pompadour Wool made by the Tioga Yarn Company. It is 70% wool and 30% lurex. Can someone tell more about what the Tioga Yarn Company is, what lurex is, and how much it is worth(the yarn is pretty old)? Thanks:)
The yarn is very good shape. It has some moth resistant stuff on it so it hasn't been ruined or whatever. And its not super old, its only like maybe 20 years old. I really don't know, my dad got it from a garage sale where he said the lady had a whole bunch of yarn.
The Tioga yarn was made by the National Silk Company of South Coventry, CT:

"Lurex" is the brand name for a type of yarn that is a thin sparkly ribbon, usually aluminium laminated with plastic. It often appears as a component in yarn to make it sparkle.
The value of the yarn is what someone will pay for it. Some people don't like older wools as they feel the yarn is very scratchy thanks to the way it was manufactured. Also, it can have gotten nibbled over time, or the fibres dry out and break easily. The metallic thread can become brittle or tarnished. Without knowing more about the current quality of the yarn, the colour, the quantity, etc. it is hard to put a value on it.
