Rowan Country

Do you consider Rowan to be a girls' name or a boys' name?

In 2008 in the US, Rowan was ranked #340 in popularity for boys and #469 for girls.

My question to you is: do you consider the name to be feminine or masculine? Or, if you prefer: can you more easily picture a male or a female with this name?

P.S. Please do not preach to me about the original intended gender association of this name. Hopefully you all know that words are dynamic and do change meaning over time. Also please be mindful that answerers here are from different countries.

I consider it to be a boys name, because it's my dad's name. Well, his name is Roen but he spells it Rowan so people in this country (English) can pronounce it.

Also, *I personally* believe that a names initial usage determines the gender it should be used on in this day and age, so I'd say it was a boys name regardless of above statement. I accept that some people like to use them on girls, and believe that they sound "feminine", but to me that's simply not the case.
