Persian Yarn

My family currently owns 2 male cats, a brown Mackerel tabby named Tigger and an orange persian named Fluffy, both 7 years. I was digging in the back of my closet and uncovered two big balls of yarn (one forest green and one light pink) and I was wondering if it is ok to give them to my cats. They play with a lot of things til they are basically gone lol and I didn't know if it would be safe to give them yarn to play with (choking hazards). Please help!!!!!

you should supervise them if they're going to play with yarn because cats can get really tangled up in it or eat it. i've heard stories of cats who choked to death because they were left unsupervised for hours on end and had gotten the yarn caught around their necks, and also stories of cats having to go to the vet to have yarn/tinsel/similar string-like things removed from their stomachs. but as long as you're in the general area just incase something goes wrong (it's not likely that anything will, but there's always that slight, slight chance) it'd be fine.
