Is it possible to knit with only one needle? If it is, does anyone have websites they can recommend that show/teach this process?
I have always wanted to learn how to knit, so my friend got me size 10.5 needles, size 11 needles and some yarn. I wanted to start with a scarf and she taught me how to cast on and . I understand the concept and the procedure and I can actually do it, it's just that my needles end up getting to close together/the yarn is too tight in between and I can't even move my needles. Is there something I'm doing wrong? My friend says I just need to relax and not worry about the technique, and that practice will help. I'm wondering if knitting with one needle is possible and if it would be easier for me.
It's not uncommon to knit too tight when you begin. However, you should strive to knit more loosely, so your stitches can move on the needles without too much effot.
When you knit a stitch, make sure to push it all the way past the tip of the needle onto the part where the diameter is thickest. It's the thick part of the needle that determines the size of the stitch. If you keep knitting at the tips, the stitches will be too tight.
If you only want to use one needle, get a crochet hook--but then you're not knitting, you're crocheting.
