Junior Soft

at junior school about 35 years ago a pudding i used to have was chocolate splodge. anyone know the recipe?.?

the dinner ladies used to make this pudding ,it was like soft chocolate on a pastry base which they used to make on trays and serve in portions . i have found one place that sells it but it is nothing like how it should be.

You Will Need
=============

Some sort of cake tin, with a removable base. This is important, as
you will not be able to get your Splodge out intact otherwise, and this
spoils the fun.

500g digestive biscuits. Or Hobnobs. The latter weren't invented when
the recipe was first assembled, though.
500g cooking chocolate
250 g unsalted butter
2 eggs
200 g caster sugar
100g chopped walnuts
100g glace cherries (optional - Tina hates them...)
BRANNDDDYYYYYY!

Method
======

Crush the biscuits until they've had enough, then crush them some more.
You can do this by putting them in a plastic bag and beating them
vigorously with a rolling pin, but using a blending or food processor
is a lot easier on the arms, and doesn't make the neighbours think
you're have a "domestic incident". Melt the choclate and butter
together in a saucepan over a VERY low heat. If you have the patience,
put them in a bowl over a pan of water and heat the latter. Is this
what they call "au bain-marie"? Meanwhile, beat the eggs and sugar
together until creamy. Once the chocolate and butter has turned itself
liquid, chuck the chocolate/butter mix, the crushed biscuits, 3/4 of
the walnuts, 3/4 of the cherries and the BRANDY into the sugar/egg
mixture and mix thoroughly. It's probably better if this is done by
hand, so as not to shred the cherries and walnuts into their atomic
components. Pour the mixture into your well-greased cake tin, and
place the remainder of the walnuts and cherries in an artistic manner
on the top. Then put it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Don't
forget to use your tongue, finger or wooden spoon to extract as much of
the remaining mixture from the mixing bowl prior to doing the
washing-up! When the Splodge is hard enough not to feel squidgy when
prodded with a finger, it's ready. Remove from the cake tin, serve
with cream.

Warning!
========

The average Splodge contains enough calories to ride a faired HPV to
Alpha Centauri. However, the Management does not recommend trying
this. Not that you'll want to anyway...
