Why do girls in Sweden dye their hair blonde a lot?

People in Sweden dye their hair this color a lot. At least half of Sweden is genetically brunettes. But they always dye it. I've seen photo's of girls with the fakest blonde hair A LOT.

The girls that colour their hair fakeblonde are following a style that is very popular among swedish teenagers at the moment (it's also very hated) called "fjortis". The style includes being as bleached blonde as possible (or have very fake brown hair), having fake tan skin, wear lightly pink or white lipstick (or an ointment normally used for diaperrash called "Idomin"), pushupbras and being generally stupid and slutty - simply anything that looks fake and stupid. If you google images of Idomin or fjortis you will see how a lot of girls look like here. Also, the girl behind one of Swedens most popular blogs is a "fjortis", you can find her blog at www.kissies.se - but she is an extremecase. It's tragic really.

But I live in Sweden, and I haven't noticed that there are more blondes than brunettes - I'd say there are more brunettes. However, the "fjortisstyle" is slowly dying and I'd say it's more popular in the bigger cities, like Stockholm and Gothenburg.

But famous, swedish blondes, like Victoria Silvstedt are colouring their hair blonde to live up to the ideal that foreigners have of swedes.
