I'm a new knitter and after learning all the basic patterns I'm getting started on my first project..just a scarf with cable pattern. Someone told me you should never leave the yarn on the needles because it will ruin the yarn but then what do I do with my project when I need to take a long break from it?
I have heard of this before, and the reason for it is, if your work sits too long on the needles, then that row will be a bit larger than the rest of the rows when your project is finished. It tends to stretch and bulges a bit. However, it may or may not smooth out eventually depending on how tightly you knit after you have worn and washed the garment a few times. Personally, I think it is too much work to remove your needles, however, if you want to, then move your row onto a size smaller needle for storage.
