Variegated Yarn
Posted in Yarn | No Comments »Questions about Kool Aid to dye wool?
I have one skein of yarn that has layers of color - darker, lighter, lighter. I do not want uneven look you get with the most colorful son - I want long streaks of color that fades into another. I thought attempt Kool Aid dyeing a skein wound still working - the wool on the outside will absorb more color than the interior and thus be darker. Has anyone else tried something like that? I saw the two layers and Simply Soft Shadows, but I want something that is that variations of the same color, no color. By Bernat Masala is a good example, but I want something that is not so heavy and that can be muffled so.
The best way to do is back your ball of yarn in a skein in which the entire circumference of the skein is the total length of each three points in the color you want. Tie the bank by the third with cotton string. Find a place where you can place the pot of dye on a portable stove and suspend a coat hanger on it. Put your stuff coloring in a large pot of warm water. Place the wire in a sinkful of warm water with few drops (not much) of detergent dish and soak for about half an hour. Lift the son Out, squeezing more of the water. Put the pot of dye on your burner and turn it to simmer. Lower third of the first thread in the pot and allow the color to take up to 10 minutes. Then lower the second third in the pot for 10 minutes, leaving the first third there. Finally lower the rest of the thread in the pan and simmer until the color is completely identified. Turn the heat off and let stand until cool. Fill a sink with water at the same temperature and rinse the yarn well. Roll it in towels or put, yet tied in a lingerie bag and turn the excess water in your washing machine for several minutes (not the entire cycle). Then hang the drying.
